storytelling week 2

Over the summer, I did a lot of service work. I worked with United Way to go to organizations and help them for a few days. I was with United Way for all of June and all of July. I did most of my service with kids that were mentally or physically disabled and physical therapy for them.  It made me feel grateful and lucky to be physically and mentally healthy.        One experience I had this summer was at the Emerge Clinic when they had water days. The kids were ages 3-8 and most had autism or just a behavioral problem. They had little pools and this gigantic waterslide. They didn't know it would be that big so they had to make the kids go slow or they would get hurt. The kids could splash and get help with their eye contact and human interactions. It was an exciting summer, and I enjoyed it.

reading reponse to Written in the Stars

Written in the Stars is written by Aisha Saeed. It is a book I just finished reading, so the information is still fresh in my memory. It is really about how the main character Naila goes with her family to her family's home country, Pakistani. After of being there for a while, she is pushed and drugged into marriage to someone she did not know. This book is disturbing to me because she is only 17 years old and in, Pakistani this is a regularly recurring thing. She has a younger brother named Irman, and she calls her parents Abi and Abu(that means mother and father).        One thing that surprised me while reading this was that her parents were going to wait until the day of the wedding to tell her they were making her get married and to stay in Pakistani her whole life. It's kind of like they sold her to another family and then they went back to America. As I was reading, I realized that this probably goes on all over the world unnoticed. I wonder why they think this

All About Me!

My name is Tanya. I am 14 years old. My birthday was on June 19. I am an only child. I do sports. The sports that I do are track and dance. My favorite hobbies are reading, dancing, and baking. My favorite foods are pizza, cake, and fried chicken. I go to Wesley Methodist Church. I acolyte and I'm in the dance group there.      I have only been to a couple of states. Those states are Washington D.C, Illinois, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, and Georgia. Some things that I like(or like to do) are the beach, rock climbing, and the treadmill. I did a lot of volunteer work over the summer, and it was quite an unforgettable experience. I did most of my work with disabled children and physical therapy.

Reading response to Ask Me

Ask Me  by Kimberly Pauley is one of my favorite books. It was really about how the main character Aria struggles with how to talk and interact with her peers even when they shun her. It is hard for her because they think she is weird because of her gift. They do not know that she just can not help and they think she's being rude or eavesdropping on their conversations. She thinks her gift is a curse because of the way everyone treats her. She has kind of sunken into invisibility with the clothes she wears. All of her clothes are either hand-me-down from her grandmother or are from goodwill. I think she should try to stand out and be more social. Part of the reason why she feels so alone is because her parents kind of abandoned her when her gift started.      My thought process for picking this book was when I see a book with a cool cover, I automatically am drawn to give it a chance. One thing that I noticed while reading was, that the author used popular song lyrics and ti
